Overcoming Adversity
Napoleon Hill once said “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” These words are as true today as the day he spoke them. Overcoming adversity is actually much easier than you may realize.
Whether we like it or not, adversity is here to stay. Each and every one of us, at some point in our lives has to overcome adversity. But adversity is not at all comfortable to deal with. It can diminish our motivation and make you feel as if you had no hope of getting through a situation that you simply can’t see a way out of. The truth however, is very different. You can overcome adversity and find a way out. The key lays in how you think about and perceive your current situation. Stepping back and taking a look at it from a different perspective can often allow you to think of ways to overcome the adversity that is affecting you right now.
Instead of focusing in on the negative, try to look at adversity from a positive angle. I go back again to the wise words of Napoleon Hill. Every negative situation has the power to make us stronger, and to avoid the same adversity in the future. Start to think of it as a challenge instead of some hopeless situation. The challenge is to find a way out of your predicament. You just have to have the knowledge and faith that you will get through this, and that in the end, the situation – and your ability to overcome it, will make you stronger.
You need to learn to find strength in adversity. Find and connect with others that have gone through – and overcome – the same problems and issues you yourself are facing right now. Life itself is a succession of small insignificant, and much larger problems – or challenges – that we have to both face and deal with. Take a step back and look at the adversity you’re facing now as objectively as you can. It sometimes helps to think about the problem not as if it were happening to you, but to someone else. What would you suggest they do in order to overcome adversity? What steps would you suggest someone else takes in order to “fix” things?
People who have achieved success in life, in work or financially are not people without problems themselves. They are simply people who have learned or developed ways to overcome adversity through positive thinking and by reacting quickly to any adversity they may face both now, and in the future. You can too!
